Co-Pt Fe-Pt Co-Pd Co-Au alloy film Ag underlayer NaCl mica crystallographic orientation magnetic anisotropy
Co-Pt alloy films were sputtered on (100)- and (111)- oriented Ag underlayers that were prepared on NaCl and mica substrates, respectively. X-ray pole figure measurements revealed that (100)- and (111)- oriented fcc Co-Pt alloy films were epitaxially grown on (100)- and (111)-oriented Ag underlayers, respectively. However, orientation deteriorated as Pt content was reduced, any texture being not seen at Pt contents below 40%. There was no significant difference in perpendicular magnetic anisotropy between (100)- and (111)-oriented fcc Co-Pt alloy films. (100)- and (111)-oriented fcc Fe-Pt and fcc Co-Pd alloy films were also prepared on (100)- and (111)-oriented Ag underlayers. However, Co and Au did not seem to form a solid solution. Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy of Fe-Pt, Co-Pd and Co-Au films hardly depended on crystallographic orientation of Ag underlayers.
