The Union catalog database, which has been cooperatively constructed and maintained by National Institute of Informatics (NII) and its member libraries, plays the essential role in its various services, such as NACSIS-CAT, NACSIS-ILL and NACSIS Webcat. Member libraries have responsibilities for the maintenance of individual bibliographic records they register. But recently, they have spent much more time and effort than before to maintain the quality of the database because the records registered have been increasing. It must be argued how we can adjust the records efficiently and control the quality of the database itself. I, therefore, investigated the bibliographic records processed in the General Library, the University of Tokyo, and analyzed corrections of records in detail to make some proposals for the improvement of cataloging.
